As Seen On TV

Thanks, misleading infomercials! Yes, thanks to you, we have to set the record straight about a misconception we’re seeing more and more when it comes to Do It Yourself Roof Repair.

You want your roof fixed? Easy peasy. Step One: Do not attempt to fix it on your own. Do not pass “Go,” and do not collect $200. But MOST importantly, do NOT try to fix it on your own with something that seems too good to be true.

Caulks, sealants, and tar…we’ve seen just about every kind of DIY job out there in our many years of roofing, but they all have one thing in common; they don’t work and the homeowner should have called a professional first.

Oftentimes when people attempt to repair their roofs on their own, it ends up costing MORE than it would have to called a roofer first. This is mainly due to the clean-up costs that are associated with having to remove the tar, caulk, or sealants that the homeowner used to make the repair themselves.

Lately, the trend is a spray-on patch seen on infomercials. We see this on about half of the calls we go out to, and most of the time it does not repair the roof. Part of the problem is that the homeowner thinks he knows where the leak is, but that’s not necessarily the case. He could be inches, feet or yards away from the actual leak. And all the spry-on sealant in the world won’t patch a leak if you’re looking in the wrong place.

To find and repair a leaky roof the first time the RIGHT way, call on a professional roofer. And for hard-to-find leaks? Call on Precision Roof Crafters. That’s our specialty.
